more color practice. step up from the bulbasaur imho, but still needs a LOT of work! i SERIOUSLY appreciate any/all feedback/crits on this... i really want to improve my digital coloring! C: THANKSSSS~
EDIT: Faded the back arm a little more into the background~
DEFINITELY a step-up from your bulbasaur! You've created an amazing sense of depth and I LOVE that you used that pink as a light source. 8D
I love the feet, the legs, the paws, ugh. Everything is really improved.
A couple of things.
Right now I see four lightsources on him. Two pink lightsources and two "white" lightsources. One pink one is coming from the middle of the right hand side of the picture (shining on the tail, legs, face, gem), the other is coming from a diagonal at the top righthand corner (shining on the butt mostly). The "white" ones are coming in from the top lefthand corner (shining on the face, feet, tail, arms, ears, paws and whiskers), and the other is coming from the bottom lefthand corner (shining on the chest, armpits, teeth).
Basically, if you were to cover up the torso with your thumb, the lightsources look more solid.
HOWEVER. I LOVE. The way you coloured that torso. D8 The chest fur is amazing and i just love the way you brought the pink down on the stomach and that dark blue/purple you used to shadow.
The only other big problem I have is the paw that's closer to the background, the one where his whisker is overlapping. It looks kind of... kind of plush, I guess? That's the only spot where the 3D effect is a little ruined for me. It should fade into the background more, since it's not really coming 'forward' at us so much as the other spots. I'd suggest doing it the way you did the heels of his feet, where it's very subtly there. You'd still be able to render the whisker without it getting lost, and the paw wouldn't look like it was becoming oddly concave to the whisker.
All in all, HUGE step up!! 8D Keep up the amazing work!!
I really love the lighting effect you added to this, it really shows well in my opinion, and the light source is evident. The purple light is a bit confusing, but it seems to be coming from the other side and I can understand that. I like the way that the fur looks like a mix of cartoon-ish and a bit realistic at the same time, but I like how it looks. But the tail fur is a bit funky to me as well. I also like the shine in his eyes and the collar adding a splash of color that adds a focal point to the piece. That's all I have to say haha
The pose and face really makes me think of Bubsy bobcat, which is a good thing in my opinion since I liked Bubsy, although if you don't like Bubsy um...sorry?
